🌑 Memories of a Peculiar Little Urban Witch

This past weekend I had the most amazing, magical trip to Seattle with my sister and my childhood best friend who recently moved there. We went to go see the opening night of my favorite band ever My Chemical Romance's rock opera album The Black Parade tour. This was a dream come true for me. The band had broken up a long time ago but reunited 5 years ago and have been doing tours. I had two tickets for different shows in 2022 after the pandemic had postponed everything, but after I got covid, I suffered badly from long covid for a year and had to sadly cancel all my plans. Finally this year, they announced their new tour based on their most beloved album, and we just had to jump at the opportunity to go to the Seattle opening night. I was even extra and packed exclusively band shirts to wear every day.

The album tells the story of a terminally ill patient, and in the titular song, he is greeted by Death in the form of a parade, a cherished memory he had held on to from childhood. At the time this album came out in 2006, I was going through a very tough time health wise. I was awaiting life-threatening surgery to stop my severe scoliosis from advancing and mortality was often on my mind. Despite the severity of the situation, I wasn't afraid. I found comfort and happiness when I was young in many things including art, both created by myself and the art I was consuming including this album.

At the sold out concert with over 49,000 people in attendance, after playing their album in its entirety, they surprised everyone with an encore performance of their greatest hits and deep cuts including my favorite one, Heaven Help Us, that I never imagined to ever hear it played live. Needless to say, the crowd went fucking wild and it was a surreal experience singing in harmony with that many people and experiencing the surprise first hand before anyone else had.

Anyways, this trip is one for the books! Besides the concert, we visited the Space Needle, the aquarium, the Museum of Pop Culture, the Chihuly glass museum, and we went on a cruise out on the bay. Seattle is such a beautiful city that I cannot wait to visit again and again.

Last week I had the pleasure of going to the 90's Mexican Pop Tour concert that my sister Vienna invited me to. We had so much fun and I was surprised to know so many of the songs I didn't even realize I remembered from my childhood! Core memories totally unlocked. We even made friends waiting at the Meet & Greet line and with girls sitting with us during the show. My favs were Kabah and Sentidos Opuestos!! 🤩 Afterwards, we went out to a karaoke bar to keep the night going. It's the most fun we've had together in a long time and I really cherished it because we don't always get the chance to go out together now as adults. We promised we'd be doing more of those outings more often. She really is the best, most loyal, funniest, kindest sister I could have ever asked for! My built in best friend. 💕

Vegas Moments 2023 🔥 Favorites: Hell's Kitchen, Fresa's Skate Shop, Hello Kitty Cafe, Coca-Cola Tastes of the World, Bobby Flay's

Friends have always been such an integral part of my life. Inevitably as we age we become busier though, and life takes us on different paths that do not intersect as much as they once did.

I'm really fortunate to have such a strong inner circle of friends that have come from every phase of my life. They truly are the extended family I've never had.

As this new year began, I started to really reflect back and appreciate moments I had with friends to a different degree. As I healed from a really traumatic year, they all individually were so kind, caring, and uplifting as I finally began to crawl out of my depression. They were understanding, listened to me, loved me unconditionally, and never made me feel guilty for not being myself, for canceling plans, for not engaging with them for long spans of time. They took me out to events, invited me on trips, took care of me if I was in a vulnerable state. You don't forget gestures like that when you're going through hard times.

I love you guys infinitely and always miss those who don't live near me anymore. ❤️

I just had the most magical weekend celebrating one of my childhood best friend's wedding in the mountain village Cloudcroft! 💍💞🌲I had the privilege of being one of the bridesmaids and I had a blast! Seeing so many old friends and our families coming together again in celebration was such a heartwarming experience. Can't wait to see all the official pictures of that day. Everything was beautiful. ❤️

Smile! So easy, so natural, no? I was remembering that last year on my birthday I had a moment to myself while waiting for friends who were ordering food. I had tried to be pretty that day so I took my phone out to take this photo of myself. I remember just blankly staring back at myself on the screen and no matter how hard I tried, I honestly couldn't do it. I couldn't for the life of me smile. As much as I wanted to do it like I had just done 50 times earlier that day, in that moment, there was nothing but emptiness I could read on my face. A genuine reflection I had no reason and no desire to hide from myself.

In that moment I realized that I was that exhausted from the array of chronic pain I was still in since being sick that summer. The numbness, the shooting nerve pains, the burning, the brain fog, the everything. I had no energy left to even grit my teeth and carry on for a simple selfie when I was alone anymore. Why couldn't I do it just like I would do it for everyone and everything else. Why was I rebelling against myself.

I wasn't. I was finally for once starting to think of myself first. I didn't want to smile. And that was okay.

My badass friends @ghostfoxtoys hosted a fun fast-food themed art show this weekend at @artspaceelpasolofts ! I participated too with some fun experimental digital art for the first time in forever and my mother-in-law ended up buying one of my pieces. (See their page for all the amazing submissions!) It was so nice to feel some new normalcy in our art community as a whole. We used to have a lot of shows, events, and gatherings pre-pandemic and they're just now starting to really pick up again. I love my art community so much! Can't wait for the next one. Follow them and our Artspace account for upcoming shows!

The fashionable friends I was with were all accidentally color coordinated with me, hair and all lol. I told y'all green is the new black.

Also Becky and I ended up accidentally drenched by random heavy ass rain when we went out to grab a snack and it scared the crap out of me because I was on my electric scooter but it survived thankfully! Definitely an adventure we won't forget. 😂 🛵⛈️

Recently hitched an unplanned quick road trip with my parents to Austin (and they of course brought along my childhood SpongeBob pillows and blanket set, bless them lol) and got to visit Jorge, one of my dearest best friends I hadn't seen in person for years for a few hours. We packed as much as we could in the time we had and it was so lovely to be hanging in person again! Video calls just don't cut it. I miss him so much. I also just found out that all my best friends except one are now living in Texas! I feel a very well planned out road trip coming up soon to see everyone. 💛

My Adrian really is such a beautiful person. He too is growing into the person he was always meant to be. An even better version of his old amazing self I met over a decade ago.

Even though our world kept crumbling around us in the darkest years we've ever had, he never gave up on working to better his severe mental and physical health issues that started way before mine did.

It makes me really emotional sometimes to just see him do normal life activities these days with ease. He's been coming back alive before my eyes. He's alive period.

I honestly don't know how I always found enough strength to pick him up every time he was at his lowest and I'm so grateful he managed to do the same for me despite the state he was in when I started to fall.

Throughout the hell we endured though, we managed to become even closer and got to know each other in ways we hadn't yet discovered in our 12 year relationship. I really did indeed marry my best friend.

We both are on a clear path now towards a better future, and it feels amazing. Problems that arise now don't seem like mountains to climb, but rather small hills we can easily walk over together.

If you or someone you love needs help with any mental health issues, don't hesitate to get it, no matter how hard it is to find the right solution. Take our word for it.

Hi again ❤️ The more I've worked hard to heal my body and mind to grow into the person I was always meant to be, the more my magical new curly mane bursts free.

As trivial as it may seem, the loss and then changing state of my hair, the thing I've always cherished most about my appearance, really has been an unexpected, unwanted, and ever-present reminder of the state I have been in physically and mentally the last two years. At times being reminded was more painful than anything else I was able to quell or subdue physically, and now constant sprouts of new baby curls and waves I've never had the pleasure of having naturally bring me so much hope and joy when I see myself now. It feels so symbolic. A beautiful metaphor for my renaissance.

I feel so much stronger and act so much like myself again these days thanks to continuing therapy, finding proper medication for my symptoms, self expressive art, and support from my loved ones when I've needed it, and for all that I am infinitely grateful.

If I can share some words of wisdom, don't put off taking care of yourself first when you aren't well in any way. Always. You really can't function or help others to your fullest potential if you aren't well, and that's the actual self-less and responsible thing to do. Don't let anyone make you believe otherwise.

Anyways, I'm extremely excited for the holiday season for the first time in four years and I can't wait for what's to come. ❤️

I couldn't pass up the Hatsune Miku x Dollskill collection and got myself a couple other cute items too. :3 Tokidoki mini backpack was also on sale and it reminded me of my old backpack I used to have with a similar print and I had to get it too.

I always knew I had the fortune of having pretty thick skin from a young age and any negative opinions, actions, or thoughts against me from others never really bothered me much or ever had a lasting effect on me because I have always been confident in who I am and that my intentions are always good.

However....

The more I've grown up, the more it's become glaringly apparent that on the flip side, I am hyper sensitive and easily feel hurt with even the smallest negative thoughts, actions, or opinions against me held by anyone I care about, even in a casual friendship, and that it stems from an ingrained fear that something that comes from me, could cause them any harm or negativity.

It will get to the point of that fear stopping me from doing what I really want to do at times.

I will stretch myself thin until I inevitably break from the constant self-programmed pressure and urge to serve others I care about unconditionally and to curate myself, my words, and my actions an infinite number of times.

I need to learn to say no. I need to learn to have a balance in my life. I need to learn that it is okay and normal that inevitably some people will not think of me in a positive way.

I ultimately need to learn that it's okay and normal to put yourself first sometimes.
